Frequently Asked Questions

How can I get more information about Westminster?
Contact Us any time via email or call 716-884-9437 during church office hours (Tuesday - Friday 8:30am-5:00pm, Sunday mornings 8:30am-12:30pm). We invite you to also sign-up for our weekly eNews updates, join our mailing list, request information about specific programs, or request a call from our pastor.

Is the church handicap accessible?
Our West Entrance and Driveway Entrance are both handicap accessible; once inside greeters will guide you to the chapel or sanctuary. In addition, hearing devices and large print bulletins are available. Simply ask any deacon for assistance.

Can my children stay with me during worship?
Children are welcome at both services. There are worship activity clipboards for children available each Sunday. In addition, Sunday school takes place during the 11:00 service on most Sundays. All children are welcome to join their peers in class. We use a rotation model with a monthly bible story taught in each of the weekly classes. Our experienced Sunday school teachers use different age appropriate activities to reinforce the lessons.

In what ways can I experience spiritual growth and connection at Westminster?
In addition to worship services, programming offered each week provides the  opportunity for spiritual connection and reflection. All are welcome to participate in our Sunday morning adult learning classes, which include a weekly Bible Study and a Spiritual Life session or if you prefer, share a cup of coffee and conversation at our Heavenly Grounds CafĂ© located near the main-level kitchenette in the Oak Room. During the week, bible study and centering prayer sessions are also offered. See our church calendar for a complete program schedule.

How can I support Westminster's mission in the community?
All are welcome to participate in carrying out our mission to support Buffalo and its residents. Our main mission projects - Westminster Economic Development Initiative, the West Side Bazaar, and our ENERGY tutoring program - welcome support from members of our congregation as well as members of the community at large.

I am interested in getting married at Westminster. Who do I contact?
We joyfully perform marriage ceremonies for non-members as well as members. A brochure and form with complete information are available by visiting the Weddings section of this website.

I attended a public concert at Westminster. How can I learn more about your music program?
Music is a very important component of worship at Westminster. During the academic year our choir leads the music portion of the Sunday service at 11:00. In addition, as a part of our Westminster Presents program numerous evening performances are held throughout the year in a variety of musical genres. We also invite guest musicians and choral groups to perform.

Westminster is so beautiful architecturally, do you conduct tours?
Westminster is an architectural gem in the City of Buffalo. Built in the gothic style in 1854, the beautiful stained glass windows tell the story of the bible as well as our work in mission. We open our doors at various times throughout the year for architectural and stained glass window tours. In addition, some building spaces are available for outside group events. Please contact the church at 716-884-9437 for more information.
